How to find IP address of your system?

An Internet Protocol Address (IP Address) is an alphanumeric value which indicates the address of the computer network on internet. In simple words, IP address is the address of the computer which is connected to the internet. If we want to download a file from internet, load a webpage or doing anything related to the internet, our computer must have an address so that other computers and the internet as well can locate our system and deliver the requested file or the webpage we are requesting for.

Let's understand with a good example, if someone wants to send you a mail, then he/she must have your address so that the dedicated mailing services can deliver the mail to your doorstep. Similarly, every computer must have an address so that other computers on the internet can communicate and deliver the information or the file to the computer who actually requested it.

Let's see how we can find our IP address.

  • For wi-fi connections:
Click "Start" or press "Windows key + i", then click "Network and Internet", select the wi-fi connection you are connected to and look for the IP address listed next to the IPv4 address under the properties option.

  • For Ethernet connections:
Click "Start" or press "Windows key + i", then click "Network and Internet", select "Ethernet" and look for the IP address listed next to the IPv4 address under the properties option.

Note: This is not your private IP address and not your Public IP address. You can find your public IP address on internet as well, you just have to search "What is my IP address?", and it will show your public IP address which is visible to people outside of your house and office network.

You can find your private IP address using the command prompt as well:

Step 1: Search "CMD" in the windows search bar and press enter.
Step 2:  Type "ipconfig" in the command prompt and press enter.

Step 3:  Look for your IP address under "Ethernet adapter Ethernet" if you are connected to internet via ethernet or under "Wireless LAN adapter wi-fi > IPv4 Address" if you are connected to internet via wi-fi.

So, this is how you can find your private IP address in your system. I hope this will help you out and you got what you were searching for.
